CMYSA seeks to field a sufficient number of competitive teams to provide age and skill appropriate opportunities for players wanting to advance their skill, knowledge, and passion for the game of soccer. In addition to the spring/summer season, CMYSA will provide our players with opportunities for skills sessions, camps, and small-sided tournaments throughout the year.
The Competitive (Travel) Program is designed for the motivated and dedicated player looking for a higher level of play and competition. Players in this program will be exposed to more training than at the recreational level, and to games against stronger “outside” competition through MYSA league play. Teams are comprised of players of similar ability and commitment, and will remain together through one year. Tryouts are held in order to make these teams. It is important to note that the Competitive Program requires a higher level of commitment and participation from those selected for these teams. Travel is required, usually within a 75 mile radius of St. Cloud.
These ages cover two phases in our Player Development Chart:
U11-U14: Phase 3--Training to Train
U15-U19: Phase 4--Training to Compete
The focus for U11-U14 age group is still on player development, but the aspect of playing as a team now enters the picture. Game understanding and tactical awareness gain importance. The desire to win is encouraged, but it is still not the focus of training sessions. Self-motivation and practicing outside of training and games must be fostered.
At the U15-U19 stage, technical work is still important, especially becoming faster and more proficient, but the emphasis is now on tactical understanding and performance. Without mastering the technical aspect, the tactical abilities cannot be developed or expanded. Self-motivation and practicing outside of training and games must be fostered.
U13+ games are 11v11
The Spring/Summer season runs May-July and teams will play 10-12 games. The main training sessions for the season start in April, but some will also take place in February and March inside. Teams will also train 1-3 times/week depending on game schedule.
*U18-U19 players do not participate in tryouts. These teams are filled in the winter on a first come-first served basis with priority going to age-appropriate players. Open spaces will them be filled by U17 players who were not placed on a U17 team.
Spring/Summer Registration cost is TBD. That includes all the fees for MYSA league games and 1-2 tournaments. In addition, each player must purchase a uniform (2 jerseys, shorts and socks); the estimated cost is $100. Additional Costs include the costs of cleats, shin guards, and a practice soccer ball. Players are required to bring their own ball to practices and games. Transportation cost should be considered.
