October 4 - 5: Players born in 2012 to 2018 have the opportunity to attend Pre-Evaluation Camp (cost $40)

Evaluations can be stressful. This camp will take players through the activities that will be used at Competitive Evaluations. The goal is to get the players comfortable with the activities and more knowledge of what evaluators are looking for so they can be more confident going into evaluations.

Selke Capital Campaign - Together, We Can Make It Happen

Dear CMYSA Families and Friends,

For over a decade, I’ve had the honor of serving this club—as a coach, a Director of Coaching, and now as your Club President. What has kept me going all these years is simple: the power of this community. CMYSA has always been about more than soccer—it’s about building character, creating opportunities, and connecting kids and families through the game we love.

Today, we have an incredible opportunity to take the next big step in our journey. The state of Minnesota is selling Selke Field, and we have the chance to make it CMYSA’s first permanent home. This would give us a true base—one that increases access, deepens community connection, improves our ability to serve, and continues a legacy for Selke field.

This is a sliding doors moment. Pairing the missions of CMYSA with Selke field is a rare opportunity. I believe in the mission of this club with my whole heart. CMYSA is about developing the next generation of leaders here in Saint Cloud. Sports are one of the best ways we learn to face challenges, build resilience, and grow together.

Let’s build something that lasts—not just for our kids, but for the next generations of Central Minnesota. Over the next few months, we’ll be working to secure funding through donors, sponsorships, and matching campaigns to make this dream a reality.

Welcome New Board Members

By-Law Changes Allow for Extra New Board Members

At the CMYSA 2024 Annual Meeting, a proposed change to the By-Laws was passed. This changed open up the CMYSA Board to elect up to 15 members. This will allow the board to get more club and community members directly involved in the daily club business. The board strongly believes that the more members we have actively helping drive the club forward the more successful we will be.

Going forward the board with continue to have 9 members that are voted into 3 year terms. These member must be voted in during the annual meeting and must be official club members (meaning that have a player enrolled in the club). The additional 6 positions are only elected for 1 year terms and can be filled at the annual meeting or at any stated CMYSA board meeting by a majority board vote. The additional 6 positions can be filled by club members or community members that do not have a player in the club. This will allow us to work more with local coaches, referees, or other individuals with roots in our soccer community.

We are excited that not only did this proposal pass but we also had several members interested in joining the board. There were 5 new board members elected at the annual meeting! We then had another 2 new members added to the board at the first stated board meeting! This brings our board up to 13 members which is a great place to be!

Teach the technical before the tactical

Where are we focused?

Please take some time to read the article linked below. This is a great piece that coincides with the focus of our coaching session on Sunday; Technical before Tactical. As a club, our focus this winter is on increasing the technical ability of our players (passing and receiving technique, 1v1s, and body shape/movement). The article highlights that the grassroots coach should focus on player actions more than positioning or formation/system.

This approach is also a great reminder for parents that a developmental season is one in which our players are making lots of decisions on the ball, and that is very separate from goals scored and wins. As the season progresses, hopefully your player's decisions will become increasingly successful in keeping possession and understanding where pressure is. I encourage parents to record the number of times your player has possession of the ball and whether they keep possession or lose it each time. Track this from game to game to see their progress throughout the season. This will be a great way to measure the development of a player/team across the course of the season.
