CMYSA Code of Conduct

Parents/Guardians are asked to discuss the Code of Conduct with their child at the start of each season.

Playing any sport at the competitive level requires a larger amount of time given to practice in preparation for more demanding games. The commitment that is required to play soccer increases as players get older and/or play at a higher level. Playing soccer for the Central Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (CMYSA) under the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) is a privilege, not a right.

As with all privileges there comes the responsibility to maintain that privilege. One of your main responsibilities is to conduct yourself in a way that reflects positively on yourself, your family, your coach, your teammates, CMYSA, and the game of soccer. Players/parents/families who do not conduct themselves appropriately will be subject to discipline with CMYSA and/or MYSA that could include removal from the Club or membership with MYSA.

Player Expectations:

  • I will play for fun and enjoyment of the game.
  • I will be prepared to participate in training sessions and matches on time, and will contact my coach if I am unable to
  • attend a team event.
  • I will wear appropriate attire/uniform and bring appropriate gear (inflated soccer ball, shin guards, water, etc.) to all
  • games and training sessions.
  • I will leave all fields and facilities in equal or better condition than when I arrived.
  • I will follow all team rules.
  • I will be a team player, get along with and cooperate with my coaches and teammates.
  • I will be a good sport. I will respect my opponents and shake hands at the completion of the game.
  • I will communicate with my coach regarding any issues or concerns, and will be receptive to feedback.
  • I will work hard to improve my overall soccer skills and fitness, and minimize conflicts that interfere with my soccer
  • commitments during the soccer season.
  • I will not use foul or inappropriate language at practices or during games.
  • I will not argue with referees, teammates, coaches, opponents, or spectators.
  • I will respect the game officials at all times. I will remember that they will make mistakes. I will not question their
  • judgment and also discourage my teammates from doing so.
  • I will not participate in physical violence or threats before, during, or after any game or practice.
  • I will not use alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs at any time while on the active roster of any CMYSA team.

Parent Expectations:

  • I will help my player participate in training sessions and matches on time, and I will (or will encourage my child/player to) contact the coach if he/she is unable to attend a team event.
  • I will refrain from coaching my player or other players from the sideline during games. I understand that instructionalinput during games is provided only by coaches. I will remember that soccer is a game played by the players and "the game"; is the best teacher.
  • I will sit on the opposite sideline from the players. I will make only positive comments to the players.
  • I will attempt to minimize the pressure of competition and place the emotional and physical well-being of players ahead of a desire to win.
  • I will alert coaches of any player’s health conditions.
  • I will encourage my player to seek out and be receptive to feedback from his/her coaches and to communicate with the coaches regarding any issues or concerns.
  • I will help my player minimize conflicts that interfere with his/her soccer commitments during the soccer season.
  • I will demand a sports environment for my player that is free from alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs, and I will refrain from their use at all CMYSA soccer events.
  • I will not engage in any kind of physical or verbal confrontation, including unsportsmanlike conduct such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures with any CMYSA representative, official, coach, player, supporter, or parent.
  • I will not remark to the referee to watch certain players or attend to rough play. I will not yell at the referee or use sarcasm, harassment, intimidation, or give feedback of any kind during or after the game.
  • I will treat other players, coaches, officials, CMYSA representatives, and spectators with respect.
  • Regardless of race, creed, color, sex, or ability; I will not participate in any form of harassment including physical, verbal, or sexual abuse.
  • I understand that by bringing snacks or pets to the field(s) I am responsible for cleaning up any mess that might be made by doing so.
  • I will address any concerns, comments, or criticisms of CMYSA (e.g. members, policies, procedures, officials, coaches, players, and CMYSA representatives) in an appropriate manner, time, and place to the appropriate CMYSA representative (e.g. coach, Director of Coaching, or Board of Directors).

By signing this Code of Conduct upon registration, I acknowledge that I have read and understand the requirements of this Code of Conduct, and I agree to abide by all CMYSA policies and procedures established by the CMYSA Board of Directors. Furthermore, I understand and agree that if I violate any of these rules, my privileges to attend any CMYSA games or activities, as a spectator or player, can be suspended.
