If you are considering becoming a referee for travel soccer, winter/spring is the time to begin your training to be prepared for the upcoming summer season. 

U.S. Soccer mandates all certified referees must be at least 13 years old to create a U.S. Soccer account. 

Once trained, you can work league games and tournaments all around Minnesota. YOU set where and when you work! 

Good referees are essential to the success of our soccer program. The most important thing that referees do is ensure that travel games are fun, safe, and fair.

Requirements for US Soccer Grassroots Referee License Certification:

1. Register for US SOCCER/MNSRC ENTRY LEVEL REFEREE COURSE
2. Pay $40 course fee and $20 US Soccer Registration Fees ($60 total) + background check fee if 18+ years ($30)
3. All training outside of the on-field training is online. 
4. Prior to attending an on-field session:
5. Complete all online courses
6. Complete the concussion training
7. Pass the First Time Grassroots Referee Quiz
8. Register and attend on-field training session. Local clinic date and location will be set soon it is usually in April. Pre-registration is required.
9. Referees 18 years or older- complete the $30 Referee background check through US Soccer and free 90 minute online Safe Sports Training.
10. Once you have completed these steps, contact M&D Sports at mnrefassignor@comcast.net to complete required paperwork to work for CMYSA. 
11. Once M&D Sports receive all required paperwork they will send you a link to register with AssignR. This is the tool used to assign games.
12. Create a Referee Account with US Soccer Connect/Affinity (required for Center Ref to access digital player cards and game scoring). Minors need to call to create a referee account, call 855-703-2578. 
13. You'll start to receive work assignments through Assignr which you must accept or decline.
14. Purchase a referee uniform kit (start with a basic yellow jersey). Available on Official Sports, Planet Soccer, or Amazon.
