What is next for our new home?

First a large thank you to our community for helping make Selke Field the home of CMYSA. Without the sharing of our mission, donations and general club support of this endeavor, we would not be opening the gates of Selke as a recreational space for our community.

Now that we own Selke many have asked what is next.

Our first priority is to get an architecture assessment of the wall surrounding Selke field completed. This assessment will help us understand the structural integrity of the wall and prioritize repairs and improvements that must be made in the next year, 5 years and 10 years. Ultimately our goal is to restore and maintain the wall due to its historical significance in our area.

A concurring priority is to get the grass surface back to a playable space. The water, mowing, fertilization and weed control schedule has been interrupted for the past year. We are working to ensure that irrigation is working and repairs are made as needed, receiving bids and consultations to know what is needed to improve and maintain a quality grass surface for our community.

In the upcoming seasons, we will prioritize the improvement of the surface through intentional leveling of areas and creating a field rotation to ensure goalmouths and high wear and tear areas are rested between seasons.

Finally, increasing CMYSA's community presence through more soccer opportunities for kids and adults will be possible due to owning Selke and having unlimited access. We anticipate holding more camps, open play, and hopefully small-sided adult play as well as increasing training and scrimmage opportunities for our current teams. We hope to house rec and competitive in the Selke in the fall and hopefully summer as well as we have not had both programs on the same facility for many years. We also hope to build community connections with other businesses and youth programming who would benefit from the green space. Whether it is a drone flying camp, SCSU club rugby, or youth baseball/softball, we want to be an option to as many organizations as possible because we believe that kids engage in activities builds stronger communities. All these projects will take a variety of funding from business partnerships, individual contributions, grants, gambling revenue from within the club, and player fees used for field rental in previous seasons.
